Privacy policy

What Contract Lists collects, why, who sees it, and your rights, in plain English.

Who we are

Contract Lists is run by Contract LLC, a California company (“we” and “us”). This policy covers what personal information we collect, why, and your choices and rights, including under California law.

What we collect and why

The kinds of personal information we collect, with examples, and why:

Personal information we collect, and why
What we collectWhy
IdentifiersYour name, email address, account ID and IP address. To run your account, contact you and keep the site secure.
Account detailsYour password (stored securely), your profile, that you confirmed you're 18 or older, and whether you did seller setup. To log you in and show the right tools for buying or selling.
AgreementsWhich version of our Terms and Privacy policy you agreed to, and when.To know which terms apply to you, and to show what you agreed to.
Phone numberYour mobile number, if you give it when you sign up. It's optional, and not checked, until text codes are switched on. We don't show it to other people.Once text codes are switched on: to link each account to a real person, allow one account per phone number, and keep scammers off the site.
ID checksNot collected yet: ID checks start soon. Then, for sellers of anything over $100 and parents on parent-assisted accounts, our payment provider does the check and handles ID images. We'll keep the result, not the images.Once switched on: to keep buyers and young sellers safe.
Licenses and certificatesLicenses, certificates and insurance details sellers add, like a license number. To show buyers what a seller has.
Listings and photosTitles, descriptions, prices, photos and your town, which can be anywhere in the 50 states and DC. Listings show only the town and state (like "Concord, CA"); a ZIP code you enter stays private. Ended or sold listings are hidden from others until you renew or relist them.To show listings to buyers and in search.
RequestsWhat you need, the details, the category, your area and any budget. Requests never show who posted them.To show your request to helpers, and let them reply in Messages.
MessagesMessages you send and receive in the app. We check them for contact details before they're sent.To let buyers and sellers talk, block contact details and look into reports.
Contact form messagesWhen you write to us from the Contact page: your name, email address, the topic and your message, and your account if you're logged in. To limit spam, we also keep a scrambled code made from your IP address, not the address itself. To answer you. The scrambled code only limits how many messages can be sent.
Payment recordsFees you pay us (the listing fee and the Requests pass): what for, how much and when. You pay on Stripe's own page: Stripe handles card details, and we don't see or store full card numbers. Paying between buyers and sellers happens outside the app for now, so we don't collect it.To charge fees, keep a record and answer questions about a charge.
Requests pass recordsWhen you start a pass: the time, the exact words you saw when you agreed (the notice and the tick box), the price and the Terms version. Also copies of the emails we send you about your pass.To show what you agreed to and what we told you, as California's auto-renewal law requires.
Shipping detailsNot collected yet. Once paying in the app starts: the delivery address the buyer gives, tracking numbers, and any packing video the seller adds.Once switched on: to get the item to the buyer, show when it's delivered, and settle problems.
Device and usage infoBrowser and device type, pages you visit and when, the sign-in cookies and the Terms cookie. To make the site work, fix problems and keep it secure.
Parent-assisted account detailsThat the account is parent-assisted, and whether a parent comes to in-person services and meetups. To show the Parent-assisted label, keep to quiet hours and the categories young sellers can use, and keep them safe.
ReportsReports you send or that are about you, our decisions and appeals, and strikes for sharing contact details. Reviews come with paying in the app.To settle problems and keep scammers off the site.

Some of this, like your account login (and, once ID checks start, ID check details), is “sensitive” under California law. We use it only to run your account, keep it secure and keep people safe.

Where it comes from

  • From you, when you sign up, post, message, pay or contact us.
  • From your device, automatically, when you use the site.
  • From our payment provider, about payments made in the app (for now, the fees you pay us), and the results of ID checks once they start.
  • From other people on Contract Lists, like a report about you.
  • From a parent, about their child on a parent-assisted account.

How we use it

We use personal information to:

  • Run your account and show your listings and requests.
  • Let buyers and sellers message each other.
  • Charge fees and keep a record of them.
  • Check accounts, block contact details in messages, and look into problems.
  • Keep a record of what you agreed to, and send you emails about your account or pass.
  • Keep scammers off the site, keep it secure and look into reports.
  • Fix problems and improve the site.
  • Answer you when you contact us.
  • Follow the law.

Who we share it with

  • Everyone can see your listings and seller profile: the name on your listings, your town and state, and what you post. Requests don't show who posted them.
  • The people you deal with see what they need: your name and your messages with them.
  • Service providers that help run the site: hosting (Vercel), database, logins and photo storage (Supabase), email (Resend), and payments (Stripe). They may use it only to provide their service to us.
  • Our AI provider. When someone reports something, an AI assistant may take the first look at the report and the messages or listing it's about. A person reviews anything serious. Once “Have AI help me” starts, if you choose it, we'll send your photo and details so it can draft your listing. The provider may use this only to provide its service to us.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect people from harm or fraud. For example, we may share information with law enforcement about stolen goods.
  • If our business changes hands (for example, Contract LLC is sold or merged), the new owner must follow this policy.

We don't sell or share it for ads

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (ads based on what you do on other websites and apps).

How long we keep it

We keep personal information as long as we need it to run your account, and as long as the law requires, like payment records. Then we delete it or remove details that identify you.

Requests pass records (what you agreed to, and when) are kept for 3 years, or 1 year after your pass ends, whichever is longer. If your account is deleted, we keep them, but no longer linked to your account. Copies of the emails we send you about your pass (your email address, the subject, the text and when it was sent) are kept until that pass's records are deleted, and for at least 3 years, whichever is later. They keep your email address even if your account is deleted.

Records of which version of the Terms you agreed to, and when, are kept while your account exists.

Messages you send from the Contact page are kept for 2 years, then deleted, with our copy of the email that brought each one to us. Like any email you send us, a copy also reaches our email inbox.

Once text codes are switched on, if an account is closed for sharing contact details or for fraud, we keep its phone number so it can't be used for a new account.

Your California privacy rights

If you live in California, you have the right to:

  • Know and access the personal information we have about you, and get a copy.
  • Delete personal information we have about you.
  • Correct personal information that's wrong.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We don't sell or share it, so there's nothing to opt out of.
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We use it only to run your account, keep it secure and keep people safe.
  • Not be treated differently for using any of these rights.

How to see, change or delete it

  • You can see your account details on your Account page, and change or end your listings any time in Your listings.
  • To see, correct or delete anything else, email us at contractlists.com@gmail.com and tell us what you'd like.
  • To protect you, we'll check the request comes from you, for example by asking you to confirm account details.
  • Someone else (an authorized agent) can make a request for you. We'll ask for proof you gave them permission.
  • We'll respond within 45 days.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. We don't track you across other websites, and we don't let anyone else do it through Contract Lists. So the site works the same way whether the signal is on or off.

Children

Children can't use Contract Lists on their own. You must be 18 or older to have an account.

A parent or legal guardian may run a parent-assisted account so a child aged 13 to 17 can sell goods or services, like dog walking, tutoring or art. The account belongs to the parent or guardian: it uses their details, and they're responsible for it. Once ID checks start, our payment provider checks the parent's ID. Children under 13 can't sell on Contract Lists, even with a parent.

On a parent-assisted account:

  • We collect only what the account needs: the name on its listings (like the child's first name or a business name), its listings and its messages.
  • The parent signs in and runs the account: they manage messages and payments, and see every message.
  • We show only a first name or business name. No photos of the child, and no exact location.
  • The child's listings say “A parent will be there” for in-person services and meetups. It's on from the start; email us to turn it off.

Coming later: the child's own chats, where the parent sees every message and can OK each one before it's sent, and the child's reports going to the parent first. We'll update this policy before they start.

We don't sell or share a child's personal information. A parent can ask to see, correct or delete it. See How to see, change or delete it.

We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it.

Cookies and browser storage

Cookies. We use only cookies the site needs to work. Today, those are the sign-in cookies from Supabase, our login provider, that keep you logged in, and one of our own that remembers which version of the Terms you agreed to, so we don't ask again. It holds nothing else, lasts up to 180 days and is removed when you log out. We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

No third party collects information about you across other websites through Contract Lists.

Browser storage. Your browser keeps a few things on your device to make the site easier to use. They stay in your browser, and we don't receive them:

  • Your recent searches and the categories you look at most, so Home can show them first. They stay until you clear your browser's data.
  • A draft of a message or a listing you're writing, so you don't lose it. It's gone when you close the tab. We only get it when you send or post it.
  • That you ticked “I agree” for the Requests pass, for up to 30 minutes in that tab, so the box stays ticked if you go read the Terms first.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we post the new version here with a new date at the top.

For important changes, people with an account are asked to agree to the new version at their next visit.
